Brief Lodge Overview
Belvidere, the twelfth oldest Lodge in East Kent, takes its name from Belvidere House, the home of The Hon William Thomas Eardley Twisleton Fiennes, the 13th Lord Saye and Sele and at the time (1844) Provincial Grand Master for Kent. We have a healthy ratio of juniors to seniors and a wide range of occupations, backgrounds, and abilities Belvidere’s flourishing Lodge of Instruction. which Includes explanation evenings after Candidates have been through Ceremonies. Much emphasis is placed on helping juniors learn new skills, e.g., public speaking, in a non-threatening and encouraging environment. Supported by senior members. Friendly and enjoyable. We have a strong belief in the importance of mentoring. No pressure to go “on the floor”, but those who want to are supported and helped throughout their progression.
Brief Lodge Overview
The first meeting of Robinson Lodge, the consecration took place at 2.30pm on Friday 7th November 1884 in the Town Hall Maidstone and we are still going today. we are all very proud members of Robinson Lodge. as a lodge we pride ourselves on assisting our brethren to achieve their masonic goals. From becoming a Master Mason or the master of the Lodge. Even some suffering from anxiety and shyness get enough encouragement to overcome and succeed. It has helped our members through life by giving us the confidence we never had. Others with dyslexia have made it to the chair of King Solomon. Our membership covers a variety of backgrounds, painters, electricians, plasterers, accountants and Ex-military. We a small but happy lodge who really enjoy the craft, but most of all enjoy each others company. In life you can have a couple of best friends, in freemasonry this is endless. Our priority is to have fun, good company and a good social life, whilst raising money for charity.

Meeting in Maidstone since 1922
Originally formed by local Farmers and members of the horticultural supply industry, it has evolved over the years to include men from all walks of life. Our Lodge has a growing group of younger (30 somethings) active officers who enjoy the social activities as well as the formal aspects of Freemasonry. We also pride ourselves in supporting our local charities.

The Lodge is a general interest Lodge, with no special interest or profession bias. The Lodge has a good level of social activity, involving family and friends of members and none Masons and is working to extend that. The Lodge has maintained its membership levels through difficult times, and has a good mix of newer, young and senior members. It therefore provides good opportunities for steady progression through the Offices of the Lodge. There is well-supported Lodge of instruction, providing ritual practice in a good and relaxed environment. The Lodge is one of the older Lodges meeting at Tovil and is named after Chillington House AKA Chillington Manor which is now Maidstone Museum

The Lodge has been in existence for over 75 years and has always been a warm and welcoming Lodge for both members and guests, the February meeting is held as ‘Guests and Visitors’ night and the members always make an effort to invite additional guests, particularly from Priory Lodge No 5819, in West Kent, who were consecrated on the same day
and at the same location.
The ‘white table’ event each January is normally the time when the previous WM presents his charities with their cheques and allows them to promote the good work that they do and is open to members, guests, family and friends. This event is always well supported. Other events are held during the year including a charity motorcycle ride followed by a BBQ, this is well supported by members and from other Lodges as well.
The Lodge of Instruction (LOI) is a relaxed place to learn ritual, (make mistakes); enjoy the company of friends, this results in excellent ritual being presented at regular meetings, members of other Lodges are also welcomed when they find it difficult to attend their own L of I. The L of I continues during the summer on a fortnightly basis, but is also well supported.
Lodge social functions are varied and are an informal way for family members to get to know other members of the Lodge. The Ladies night is held in June each year normally at a different location around the Maidstone area, attendance is around the 100 mark. Being a Lodge with a large number of members, outside interests are many and varied including golf, music, motorcycling and shooting.

Post the Second World War the founders were able to establish a Lodge where members had a specific link with the Village of Bearsted. Overtime this requirement mellowed and we can rightly now be described as broad based with members from Maidstone and the surrounding area. Although relatively small in number our reputation identifies the Lodge as displaying what we consider the unique fundamental principal of freemasonry, that of Friendship and Brotherly Love. To that end we take pride in our presentations and our hospitality at Festive Board. We are blessed with the number of return visitors to our Meetings with several over the years becoming joining members. Not surprisingly the profile of the Lodge has changed over the years and we are now at that point where a nucleus of younger members are now coming through to take senior offices. That has influenced our outlook in terms of supporting the many and various events that are part of Masonic socialising. Traditionally we look forward to the more formal social occasions as well as individually supporting organised sporting, hobby or fun events. Our membership includes representatives from manufacturing, engineering, retail, technology, the professions and the public sector. This variety gives us the buzz that is Freemasonry, the coming together of likeminded individuals willing to share, learn, engage and develop for the future benefit of all.

Originally started as a shopkeeper's Lodge. Hence, Wednesday meetings derived out of
the day being traditionally an early closing day for shopkeepers. A history is available.
The Lodge currently has a small, but enthusiastic membership. It has been most fortunate to have recently attracted two Initiates in 2016 who have replenished numbers to the present level. The Lodge's heyday reflected a membership of 64 from all areas of employment, not just shopkeepers, and suffered it's reduction due mainly to aging of members and job relocation of younger brethren. The Lodge as it now exists continues to contribute to, and promote, the values of Freemasonry strongly with support to many, varied, and local, charities, and also meeting its obligations to its own charity, the various Festivals', and appeals.
Our Lodge of Instruction offers careful encouragement which assures we are not asking any brother to do something which is beyond their ability. The all round ability of its officers and members gives a tremendous sense achievement amongst the membership from what is a small Lodge and which reflects well at our ritual meetings.
Our Mentoring Officer encourages all brethren to visit other Lodges. A Senior member or
the Lodge Mentor will accompany junior brethren on these visits to witness other ritual workings and to see some ancient or historic Lodge's.
Our Festive Board following the formality of our meetings are a mixture of fun with some laughter and respectability, filled with the enjoyment of good company.

The Lodge has a good mix of experienced and newer Masons and has an active social calendar of both masonic and non-masonic events. The Lodge are the current holders of the William Blay golf trophy (2020/21).
As well as supporting some of the well known national Charities (ie Cancer Research and British Heart Foundation), the Lodge has, over the past few years, supported several smaller local charities (eg “Slideaway”). The Lodge is also active in supporting “Teddies for Loving Care” (TLC) in East Kent.
Since its inception in 1963 the lodge has grown and today has a membership of circa 30. It is in good health with a steady stream of new members – both Initiates and joining members.
One of the objectives of the Lodge is the promotion of the “Stability Ritual” within the Province of East Kent, which is in essence, the oldest ritual recognised by the United Grand Lodge of England, and Maeides Stana is still the sole Stability Lodge in the Province, and one of only 16 in the country.
